NUEDEXTA is clinically proven to help reduce PBA episodes of sudden, frequent, uncontrollable crying and/or laughing that doesn't match how you feel. NUEDEXTA is the first and only FDA-approved treatment for PBA.
Two active ingredients in one capsule
NUEDEXTA is a single capsule that combines two active ingredients: dextromethorphan and quinidine. Both have been used separately to treat conditions other than PseudoBulbar Affect (PBA), but they work uniquely together to treat PBA.
When the brain's circuitry is intact and working normally, appropriate expression of emotion such as laughing or crying occur. Neurologists believe brain injuries and certain neurologic conditions may cause damage that disrupts some of the signals that tell your body when or how much to laugh or cry. In some cases, this can be a sign of PBA.

NUEDEXTA helps control PBA episodes
In a 12-week clinical trial, patients experienced an average of 44% fewer PBA episodes after the first week of taking NUEDEXTA.* What’s more, they averaged 82% fewer episodes after 12 weeks—and 51% of patients were completely free of PBA episodes during the final two weeks of the study.* Your results may vary.
Results vs baseline. Patients taking placebo experienced 19% fewer PBA episodes at Week 1 and 45% fewer episodes at Week 12 and 29% were completely free of PBA episodes in the final 2 weeks of the 12 week study.*
Staying with treatment matters
- NUEDEXTA is meant to work over time. While patients in a clinical trial had fewer PBA episodes after the first week of taking NUEDEXTA, they had a greater reduction in episodes after 12 weeks*
- Consistency can help you reach your treatment goals. When you take the prescribed dose, you are keeping the right amount of medicine in your system to help you control your PBA episodes
- PBA episodes can be unpredictable, but taking your medication as prescribed can give you the best chance to start taking control
While taking NUEDEXTA, tell your doctor if your PBA episodes continue or get worse. Your doctor should periodically reassess the need for treatment as PBA symptoms may sometimes improve on their own.
NUEDEXTA is approved for the treatment of PBA, the sudden, frequent, involuntary crying and/or laughing that may occur with certain neurologic conditions or brain injury.
The most common side effects of NUEDEXTA are diarrhea, dizziness, cough, vomiting, weakness, and swelling of the feet and ankles. You should talk with your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking NUEDEXTA, and read the Important Safety Information below.
